The foundation

Faced with the occurrence in Brazil of numerous episodes of violations of the rights of children and adolescents, such as homicides and child labor, the Brazilian Association of Toy Manufacturers (Abrinq) created, in 1989, a Directorate for the Defense of the Rights of the Child - a nucleus that in the future would become the Abrinq Foundation for the Rights of Children and Adolescents.

What motivated the initiative was the belief that it would not be possible to expect the public authorities to resolve such issues alone. There was a conviction that work in favor of vulnerable children and adolescents in the country should not be an individual action, but a collective effort by the whole of society.

At the beginning of the work, several actions were carried out in partnership with other sectors of society, establishing since then the characteristics of the entity that are preserved until today: focus on the mobilization and participation of society. Thus, the Abrinq Foundation has manifested since its creation the vocation of an advisory, defense and guarantee of rights entity capable of positively intermediating the relationship between those who need resources and those who have them.

Since February 13, 1990, the Abrinq Foundation for the Rights of Children and Adolescents has been in line with the precepts established in the 1988 Federal Constitution and the 1989 UN International Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Abrinq Foundation carries political influence in its DNA; the implementation of programs and projects; and the development of communication and engagement actions that always seek to promote the rights of children and adolescents in different Brazilian realities.
